Urban Taskforce welcomed Taskforce members and invited guest to view the Addison Project by Toga on 8 May 2019. The Addison Project is an innovative way to keep vulnerable people off the streets and in safe accommodation. Property developer and Urban Taskforce member TOGA has opened the doors of their vacant ‘Addison Hotel’ on Anzac Parade, Kensington to provide accommodation to those who are experiencing homelessness.
The Addison Hotel was purchased by TOGA several years ago and was destined to lie dormant while the approval for the redevelopment of the site was obtained. The hotel includes 42 fully-furnished rooms set across three storeys. The initial one-year project has now been extended to three years.
TOGA have partnered with a number of other organisations to make the Addison project the focus for a variety of services to help the homeless and the less well off. My Foundations Youth Housing finds suitable tenants, Oz Harvest provides complimentary food and Orange Sky Australia provides laundry and shower facilities. Thread Together sources new clothing and local barbers provide free haircuts.
Attendees were invited to see how the Addison Hotel and accompanying services operated.
During the visit, over 400 customers visited the site and took advantage of the services.
