Recent anti development rhetoric by the NSW Greens is not good environmental policy, is delaying housing supply and stopping jobs, says the Urban Taskforce.
“The Greens in NSW are being emotional and attacking all development as not being in the interests of the community.” says Urban Taskforce CEO Chris Johnson.
“The reality is that our cities are growing and we need to manage our future sustainability and this must include quality urban development.”
“Development is simply another word for new housing or new work places. NSW desperately needs more housing supply to reduce rental costs and provide new homes for families as well as jobs for our growing population.”
“If we listen to the Greens popularist anti development approach it could delay new housing and therefore increase costs to the community for the purchase of a home. It could also stop the provision of new jobs and drastically impact on the construction industry. That means fewer jobs for builders, carpenters, painters and bricklayers.”
“The Urban Taskforce calls for the NSW Greens to take a more responsible position on the development of our cities. The Greens should be supporting investment in housing and jobs as being the key to a sustainable urban future.”
“Supporters of environmental sustainability for future generations understand that in urban areas, density and new development are part of the solution.”
“The proposals by the NSW Government to improve the planning system are sensible and appropriate and should be supported by key leaders in the community.”
