Developers lobby group Urban Taskforce chief executive Tom Forrest said the cost of protecting biodiversity were increasing rapidly and increasing the cost of delivering new homes, particularly on Sydney’s urban fringe.
Forrest also said a development’s impact on plants and animals was a standard part of the planning process.
“Where it is necessary to cut down trees, it is often the case that new trees need to be planted or payments for offsets need to be made to local councils,” he said.
