8 Barry Lee of DBI Architects outlined his organic design approach Barry Lee is the Design Director and Principal of DBI Architects based in Brisbane but undertaking skyscraper projects across the world. Barry presented a very individual design process based on organic forms in nature and particularly the Mandelbrot effect where in nature a system can spread into quite complex organic forms. Barry went on to link his understanding of complex systems into the design of buildings with examples from the Gold Coast and Abu Dhabi. He also predicted that the evolving sophistication of computer systems and the link between design programs and manufacturing processes would revolutionise even more the potential to build more organic complex buildings. Barry related all of this to some dramatic designs for tall buildings in the Gold Coast and to earlier designs for two tall Meriton Towers in Brisbane.
