10 Ian Lomas of Make Architects presented towers in London, Mumbai and Sydney MAKE are a practice that evolved out of Foster Partners of London into an important practice undertaking major projects across the globe. Ian Lomas, a partner in MAKE, began with the firm’s work in London and explained how the increasing number of tall buildings in London are changing the character of the city. Renzo Piano’s Shard building began the change but now a number of towers with interesting shapes are giving a new profile to the centre of London. Ian explained how London City architects have a strong role in protecting views of St Paul’s Cathedral and that buildings, including those designed by MAKE must respond to various view lines. He then went on to present two tall buildings in Mumbai, India that were part of that cities evolution into high rise towers. One project is built and relates to a public garden area while offsetting the contribution of land with tall elegant towers. The second Mumbai project is a dramatic tower on Marine Drive that wraps around a large bay on the edge of the city. This tower is more sculptural and organic in its form. Finally Ian Lomas presented the key Sydney project MAKE are involved in over Wynyard Station in Sydney. Ian Lomas Wynyard Tower Wynyard Tower Street Level www.makearchitects.com
