13 Circular Quay Building Circular Quay Building David Rolls, the National Development Director from Lendlease outlined the complex process of siting a tall building close to Circular Quay and close to other tall towers. The project had to go through a design excellence process through the City of Sydney Council where a number of architects produced designs for the site in a competitive process. The building is a commercial building so Lendlease had specific requirements for the size and shape of floor plates to ensure commercial viability. David Rolls also outlined Lendlease’s extensive experience in the design of tall buildings in Sydney including Australia Square and the MLC tower. Muir Livingstone, a Partner in Foster + Partners who has moved to Sydney to drive the design resolution of the project then explained how Foster + Partners had designed many signature tall buildings across the world including the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank building in Hong Kong and the Gherkin Tower, London. He then went on to explain in detail the design of the Circular Quay tower and how the core and floor plate evolved along with the overall form and expression of the building.
