Why the plan for cheaper housing in Sydney’s most expensive suburbs won’t work

Proposed changes to state government planning laws to encourage cheaper forms of housing in more expensive suburbs have been condemned as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” that will lead to exactly the opposite outcome.

“They say they’re proposing to increase housing diversity and choice so people will be able to afford to live in the wealthier areas of Sydney,” said Tom Forrest, chief executive of developer lobby group the Urban Taskforce.
