The NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure is in the process of reviewing State Environmental Planning Policy 65- Design Quality of Residential Flat Development (SEPP 65) and the Residential Flat Design Code (RFDC). The Department has released a discussion paper and will receive comments until 24 February 2012.
The discussion paper contains some sweeping statements suggesting wide industry acceptance of SEPP 65 and the RFDC. Furthermore the discussion paper suggests that there is industry support for the expansion of SEPP 65 to other forms of development such as serviced apartments and medium density housing.
The Urban Taskforce understands that this government policy has a dramatic impact on our industry. We will be conducting a comprehensive review of the policy and we will be making a submission. Our submission should be reinforced with real examples of the impact of SEPP 65 on urban development. In that regard we are interested in examples of developments that may have been restricted by the SEPP, particularly where compliance with the RFDC resulted in a less than optimal outcome.
Please contact Gilbert de Chalain with your comments or examples for inclusion in our submission. Further details on the exhibition can be accessed from here.
