NSW per capita construction expenditure moving upwards

25 February 2015

The quarterly construction figures for the December 2014 quarter when converted to per capita amounts show NSW moving upwards but still behind other states, says the Urban Taskforce.

“NSW seasonally adjusted total building value per capita was $819 for the December Quarter while Queensland was $863, Victoria $1108 and Western Australia $1317,” says Urban Taskforce CEO, Chris Johnson. “NSW has been climbing since2011 when the current government was elected but the state still has a fair way to go to match Victoria.”

“The Urban Taskforce has related the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) quarterly construction data to population size for many years. While NSW as the biggest state can have high figures when divided by population, a different interpretation occurs.”

“Coming into a state election there is no doubt that significant improvements have occurred over the last four years but NSW needs to continue to improve in the years ahead to assert its natural position as the number one state.”
