The NSW Budget has been kind to Newcastle and the Hunter with some strong funding proposals, says the Urban Taskforce.
“The budget contains almost $300 million of commitments for Newcastle and the Hunter,” Says Urban Taskforce CEO, Chris Johnson. “$100 million is being reserved in the Hunter Infrastructure Investment Fund for Hunter and Newcastle projects.”
“On top of this, funding for projects worth $185.2 million have been announced. This includes $34 million for grants to Local Government for road improvements.”
The centre of Newcastle gets a big boost with $25 million allocated towards the relocation of parts of Newcastle University to the centre of the city.”
“A further $5 million has been allocated to the Newcastle light rail scoping study now that the location has been resolved.”
“Following the sale of the Newcastle Port and the allocation of funding from today’s budget, Newcastle is clearly into a regeneration mode and that is good news for the city.
