The announcement by the federal government that they will be delivering the proposed Western Sydney Airport opens the opportunity for this to be the game changer for Sydney says the Urban Taskforce.
“The announcement that the Federal Government will be the developer of the Western Sydney Airport, after Sydney Airport declined the opportunity to do this, gives clarity for the project.” Says Urban Taskforce CEO Chris Johnson “With the City Deal for Western Sydney that involves the three levels of government there is now an opportunity to make the new airport the game changer for Sydney’s future.”
“Clearly the first decision must be about the rail connection to the airport followed by the airport design and then the plans to create an ‘aerotropolis’ around the airport in the form of the third city for metropolitan Sydney. There is huge potential to deliver thousands of jobs and desperately-needed homes.”
“It will be important to involve the land owners around the airport in plans for new development to ensure that innovation from the private sector is harnessed.”
“A number of Urban Taskforce members are stakeholders in the development around the airport and the Urban Taskforce is keen to work with all levels of government to ensure the ‘game changer’ potential of the new airport is realised.
