Building approvals for apartments and non-residential buildings are on the way up in NSW, says the Urban Taskforce.
The ABS monthly building approvals for June have shown a big jump of almost $100 million a month for non-residential buildings, says Urban Taskforce CEO Chris Johnson. It is also pleasing to see that apartment approvals are now tracking at 1,750 a month.
Detached housing is unfortunately still flat at 1,300 approvals this month.
What the statistics seem to demonstrate is the swing to apartment living is NSW is strong. No other state has apartment approvals ahead of detached houses.
The 2011 census confirmed the swing to apartments in Sydney with 27.6% of all households in this category.
