Brisbane City Councils ˜can do attitude is paying off with significant development and investment flowing into the city centre, according to the Urban Taskforce.
The Urban Taskforces chief executive officer Chris Johnson said yesterdays approval of a $590 million development by Grocon in Queen Street follows the recent approval of a 90 storey hotel and residential tower and previous approvals for residential towers by Meriton of 78 storeys and 82 storeys.
There seems to be a very supportive environment for urban development in Brisbane, which is a great boost to their economy, Mr Johnson said.
The message we are getting from members of the Urban Taskforce who develop projects in Brisbane and Sydney is that support is much stronger in Brisbane and that approvals are much faster, he said.
We have heard stories of projects taking up to 5 times longer for approval in Sydney compared to the Brisbane approach.
There seems to be a culture of support for development in Brisbane that is missing from many Sydney councils.
The Brisbane designs appear to be of high quality with top architects like Bates Smart and DBI involved.
The Urban Taskforce is a property development industry group, representing Australias most prominent property developers and equity financiers.
