Baird boost for NSW economy

17 April 2014

The election of Mike Baird as NSW Premier will be a boost for the state’s economy, says the Urban Taskforce.

“Mike Baird has driven the NSW economy well as Treasurer and this gives him a good platform as the new Premier to expand this into a leadership role for the state’s future prosperity,” says Urban Taskforce CEO, Chris Johnson.

“The NSW Government had become too bogged down in reviews and committees. The Baird Government now needs to demonstrate leadership and a can do approach to moving the state forward.”

“The election of Gladys Berejiklian as Deputy Leader is also good news as she has demonstrated many achievements in her role as Transport Minister. As Deputy Leader of the Liberals this outcome focussed approach will hopefully permeate the government’s activities.”

“Clearly issues like the sale of the poles and wires can now be rethought and hopefully a new look at the unresolved planning reforms can occur.”

“Barry O’Farrell gave sound leadership to NSW over the last 3 years but his term was marked by a cautious approach with many potential reforms being slowed down. We elect governments to lead and Mike Baird now has the opportunity to demonstrate a fresh approach to making NSW number one again.”
