16 Neil Arckless – Project Director for Lendlease’s Darling Square regeneration provided a detailed outline of the evolution of this urban project close to the Sydney CBD. The project includes approximately 1,500 apartments, 26,000 square metres of commercial office space, 12,000 square metres of retail, community and leisure uses, 1,300 bed student accommodation and a 590-room luxury hotel, the Sofitel. A key feature of the project is The Exchange, an amazing building designed by Japanese architecture firm Kengo Kuma & Associates, which incorporates a ground floor market hall, City of Sydney library, a childcare facility and a rooftop with views of the Sydney CBD skyline, the Chinese Garden of Friendship and Darling Harbour.
