Walker Corporation appointment for Parramatta square demonstrates confidence in Parramatta’s future

The selection of Walker Corporation to deliver the $1.2 billion development of commercial and residential towers at Parramatta Square demonstrates confidence in Parramatta’s growth, says the Urban Taskforce.

“The commitment to strong growth by Parramatta City Council has led to significant investment by the private sector and this is a lesson for other centres in Metropolitan Sydney,” says Urban Taskforce CEO, Chris Johnson. “The announcement that Walker Corporation will develop residential and commercial towers in the city centre demonstrates that the council’s vision is now becoming a reality.”

“This project will anchor Parramatta as Sydney’s second CBD and enable the city centre to grow into a vibrant hub of activity, attracting businesses and residents seeking an urban lifestyle. The balance of a very tall residential tower with two smaller commercial towers is just what the city needs.”

“The Urban Taskforce is keen to work with Parramatta City Council in addressing the restrictive height requirements imposed by federal aviation authorities. Other cities around the world like New York and Shanghai can get much taller towers near airports so it must be possible here in Sydney.”

“The boom in development in Parramatta is supported by a number of significant developments undertaken by Urban Taskforce members. These include Dyldam, Crown Group, Meriton, Holdmark as well as the Walker Corporation.”

“It will be important to have major commercial tenants for the new commercial buildings in Parramatta Square and the Urban Taskforce looks forward to announcements of successful tenants in the future.”
