Urban Revitalisation of Newcastle Gets a Boost

The announcement of improvements to the light rail corridor along with the provision of affordable housing are excellent projects which will boost the revitalisation of Newcastle says the Urban Taskforce.
 
“The announcement by Minister Constance that the Newcastle Light Rail will be wire free to provide better amenity in the heritage precincts of the city is good for the renewal of the city centre.” Says Urban Taskforce CEO Chris Johnson “The further announcement by Minister Roberts that 30 affordable homes for key workers will be provided in conjunction with Newcastle City Council provides social diversity in an accessible location.”
 
“The beautiful streetscape of Newcastle has remained intact over the years, with many heritage buildings along Hunter Street and surrounding areas. The revitalisation of this important precinct has been supported by the new legal complex and a steady flow of new urban housing. With large parts of the University of Newcastle relocating to the historic core there is a growing momentum which will drive the activation of the precinct.”
 
“The light rail infrastructure is clearly the big game changer in Newcastle which will encourage more activity and allows a more cosmopolitan character through adjacent out-door dining areas and the introduction of new street trees.”
