This issue of Urban Ideas focuses on the important need to move Sydney Olympic Park from being a sporting venue to becoming a cosmopolitan mixed use urban centre. The Draft Master Plan for the park produced by SOPA is a good beginning to this transition. Since the master plan was exhibited, however, the NSW Government has announced that a new Metro West rail will connect Sydney and Parramatta with a station at Sydney Olympic Park. This is a game changer to the future of the park now giving it a mass rapid transport connection to the jobs in Parramatta and central Sydney and this needs to be reflected in enhancements to the Draft Master Plan.
