Tony Perich, Managing Director of Greenfield Development Company, dairy farmer and the developer of Oran Park Town and Narellan Town Centre in Sydney’s South West is the Urban Taskforce Property Person of the Year for 2014.
“Tony Perich is one of the main drivers of residential development on Sydney’s South West fringe.” says Urban Taskforce CEO, Chris Johnson. “Tony began as a dairy farmer and moved on to the development of Narellan Town Centre followed by Oran Park with 5,600 homesites and Gregory Hills with 2,500 homesites.”
“Tony is a hands on person, at times driving bull dozers to prepare the land and keeping an eye on every detail of his extensive developments. He is Managing Director of 10 companies and joint Managing Director of another three and a Director of another 9 companies. He heads up the Leppington Pastoral Company which milks around 2,200 cows at Bringelly and has crops in excess of 6,000 hectares of grain and hay in the Central West of NSW.”
Urban Taskforce Chair, Noel Hemmings QC, said “I have known Tony for many years and have admired his ability to run both a massive dairy and a booming development business. This award, of course, is for what he has achieved as a developer and there is no doubt that he has set very high standards for the development of new town centres and whole suburbs on the fringe of Sydney. I congratulate him on winning this award and for all he has achieved.”
Chris Johnson, Urban Taskforce CEO, said “Tony Perich has prepared the groundwork for development around Badgery’s Creek airport through his extensive developments. As well as the housing estates Tony is developing the Central Hills Business Park and has developed the Narellan Town Centre which is a large shopping centre.”
“While Tony Perich has been the driver of the major projects in South Western Sydney he has formed joint-ventures with Landcom at Oran Park and worked jointly on other sites with partners.”
“Tony Perich was born in Liverpool in 1940 to Croatian parents and is married to Catherine and has two sons who, along with Tony’s brother Ron and his family, are all involved in the family’s businesses. Tony’s father grew tomatoes for sale at the Sydney Markets and in 1953 the family moved into dairy farming which has evolved into one of Australia’s largest dairy farms.”
“The Urban Taskforce is particularly pleased that Tony Perich’s award as Property Person of the Year puts a focus on the importance on new housing stock on greenfield sites on Sydney’s fringe. Even in these locations there is attention to lot sizes and to the development of a variety of housing types. At Oran Park a whole new community has been created with shopping centres, schools, community facilities and work places as well as up to 5,600 homes. “Tony Perich is a great contributor to the community. He was Chairman of the Fundraising Committee for the Spastic Centre’s Growth Point Project at Liverpool, President of Narellan Rotary, Vice President of the Narellan Chamber of Commerce for 10 years, Board Member of the Greater Western Sydney Economic Development Board. He established the Cancer Health Research Foundation Sydney South and has raised funds for Prostate Cancer Research. He received an AM- Member Order of Australia in 1999 for services to the community.”
“Previous winners of the prestigious Urban Taskforce Developer of the Year include Harry Triguboff of Meriton, Garry Rothwell of Winten, Steve McCann of Lend Lease and Ross McDiven of Brookfield Multiplex among others. Tony joins this august group and will be presented with his award at a major industry dinner on Friday 21st November 2014.”
“The Property Person of the Year function is a charity event that raises funds for two very worthwhile charities. These are St Vincent’s Prostate Cancer Research and Warrah Society. Over the last 14 years, $2 million dollars has been raised for the two charities along with very significant contributions in kind. Last year Brookfield Multiplex organised a ‘Bathroom Blitz’ to totally rebuild 17 rundown bathrooms at Warrah.”
