The draft Sydney Local Environmental Plan is coming under attack from local community groups.
Twelve inner-city resident groups have written to the government requesting that the draft LEP be put on hold. These groups claim that the City of Sydney’s planning process was initiated under a previous government that encouraged “over-development”, hence the draft LEP is tainted.
Apparently, more than 850 submissions were received; more than half were about Ashmore Estate, Erskineville.
“Some members of the community are fearful that the draft [plan] introduces significant changes to the current planning controls,” city plan review manager Francesca O’Brien has told local media.
“Other than in our key urban renewal areas, it generally doesn’t,” Ms O’Brien said.
Our submission to the City of Sydney is available here.
