In 2025, Urban Taskforce Australia made a submission to Treasurer Jim Chalmers Economic Reform Roundtable.
This submission outlined the productivity challenges for, and concerns of, the property development and construction industry.
The Federal Government subsequently held its three-day talkfest in the middle of a Canberra winter, but the result appeared to be just more discussion about the need to address productivity, without significant progress.
From a development sector perspective, the Roundtable was rather disappointing, with very little consideration of the barriers to the housing sector, and, while the Treasurer’s ten “quick wins” have resulted in a few small steps towards tangible improvements, clearly much more needs to be done.
