The renewal of the old Swiss Grand Hotel at Bondi into a mixed use development with some of the best apartments in Sydney has taken out the prestigious Urban Taskforce ‘Development of the Year’ at the Development Excellence Awards 2016.
“Apartments have dominated this year’s Development Excellence Awards including the top award of Development of the Year,” says Urban Taskforce CEO, Chris Johnson. “PACIFIC Bondi Beach was the unanimous choice for top development of 2016 demonstrating an amazing renewal of the old Swiss Grand Hotel into a new mixed use building that contains some of Sydney’s best apartments overlooking Bondi Beach.”
“The $450 million PACIFIC Bondi Beach apartments have sold out in record time and at record prices. The building includes a supermarket, shops and a hotel as well as in situ art works all adding to the beach side vitality of Bondi. The winning project was developed by Allen Linz of Rebel Property Group and Eduard Litver of Capit.el Group.”
“New apartment buildings at Parramatta, St Leonards, Barangaroo, Mascot and Riverwood have also won awards this year demonstrating the boom in apartments that is sweeping across Sydney and other Australian Cities. The KOI Apartments at Parramatta by Dyldam, Air at St Leonards by Holdmark Property Group, Anadara & Alexander at Barangaroo by Lendlease, Mascot Central at Mascot by Meriton and Washington Park at Riverwood by PAYCE Consolidated Limited, all won awards.”
Chair of the judging panel NSW Government Architect Peter Poulet said “This year’s awards demonstrate that the industry is performing well with many quality projects to choose from. The jury balanced design quality, economic performance with innovation to select the winners. The PACIFIC Bondi Beach was a stand-out winner of Development of the Year with its innovative approach to renewing the old hotel on the site and creating a modern interpretation of a flowing art deco architecture that relates to the beach side setting. Not only does the winner look good, it also contains a mixture of uses that add value to the local community and the new apartments have sold for record prices making the project a financial success.”
The judges for the Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Awards were Peter Poulet, NSW Government Architect; Carolyn Cummins, Commercial Property Editor, Sydney Morning Herald; John Wynne, Managing Partner, Urbis; John Ferrarin, Quantity Surveyor, Ferrarin Consulting Services and David Tanevski, Managing Director, KWC Capital Partners.
