One Central Park wins Development of the Year from the Urban Taskforce

31 July 2014

One Central Park on Sydney’s Broadway has won the property industry’s top award for 2014 from the Urban Taskforce’s Development Excellence Awards.

“ One Central Park represents the very best of urban living and demonstrates that density and height can provide dynamic, cosmopolitan environments that many people are keen to live in,” says Urban Taskforce CEO, Chris Johnson. “ The developers of Central Park, Frasers Property and Sekisui House, are to be congratulated on the success of the project. It is a winner on environmental, social and economic levels with its environmental initiatives, its extensive amenities for residents and visitors as well as its clear success with an incredibly strong sales record to a clearly impressed market.”

“High rise buildings did well in this year’s awards,” says Chris Johnson. “ The High Density Residential Development award went to Meriton for their 80 storey residential tower in Brisbane which has set new standards in that city.”

“ The Commercial Development award went to Grocon’s Liberty Place an elegant high rise commercial tower that has created new public spaces at the ground level.”

“ Continuing the high rise focus, the Innovative Development Award went to Mirvac’s 8 Chifley Square which has set a new standard for the Australian office building. The striking architecture is complemented by open plan interiors with dramatic atriums linking a number of floors.”

“ The boom in apartments is reinforced by the award of the Adaptive Re Use Development Award to the conversion of a 16 storey commercial complex into 217 apartments. The adaptation was done by the Barana Group to create the Panorama Apartments at Crows Nest.”

The Chair of the Judging Panel, NSW Government Architect Peter Poulet said “The standard of developments is going up every year and this year’s winners, as well as all the entrants, demonstrate that the development industry is making a very positive contribution to our urban environment. It is pleasing to see quality of apartment buildings including the incredible One Central Park with its vertical gardens and the giant cantilevered heliostat giving the image of a 21st century precinct.”

“As a measure of the quality of development this year 12 awards were given including awards for retail development, mixed use, sustainable development and medium density residential development. Winners came from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.”
