Urban Taskforce CEO, Tom Forrest, said that with the National Housing Accord underway, NSW housing approvals data released by the ABS today showed NSW achieving only half the approvals needed to meet the Accord targets.
The starters gun has gone off on the National Housing Accord but housing approvals are languishing in the doldrums.
In NSW – only 3,736 approvals were issued in May 2024. The National Housing Accord will require around double that in terms of approvals – 7,500 each month, for the next 60 months, to go anywhere near to meeting the 377,000 new homes required in the state over the next five years.
