Urban Taskforce CEO, Tom Forrest, said that ABS data released today showed that NSW faces a long road to recovery and on housing supply and affordability. The NSW Planning system is staring in the face of an unprecedented housing supply and affordability crisis and has clearly failed with ongoing low levels of dwelling completions and commencements.
Today’s data shows that in the September 2022 quarter, only 12,490 dwellings commenced in NSW. This compares unfavourably to Victoria – which saw more than 14,094 commencements and is well down from the 17,000 to 20,000 quarterly commencements achieved in NSW 2016-18.
