Metro rail network vital for Sydney’s growth

The announcement by the NSW government of four new metro rail links across Sydney reinforces the locations for growth, says the Urban Taskforce

“The extension of the Metro West line from Westmead to The Western Sydney Airport will define a new growth corridor” says Urban Taskforce CEO Chris Johnson. “It will be important for the Labour Party to also commit to an extensive metro network across metropolitan Sydney.”

“The NSW Government has announced new metro routes including Metro West extension to Western Sydney Airport, St Marys to Rouse Hill, Western Sydney Aerotropolis to Macarthur and the Metro South West extension from Bankstown to Liverpool.  These are major city-making infrastructure projects that will underpin growth for Sydney.”

“Whoever wins government on the 23rd March will need to ensure that the anti-development rhetoric from older communities against urban development does not stop appropriate development around new and existing railway stations.”

“Both the current NSW government and the opposition need to commit to future development that is closely connected to infrastructure expenditure, particularly in relation to rail. Communities and councils should not be allowed to reduce densities in these locations from the government’s plans.”
