CEO of the Urban Taskforce, Tom Forrest, said that today’s release of ABS housing completion and commencement numbers shows that while new build commencements are picking up, there is much more to be done.
The ABS data now give us a picture of the first 15 months of the Accord (which commenced in July 2024). We are now at quarter time for the National Housing Accord timeframe.
By way of analogy, at quarter time, the oranges are bitter, the fans are restless and the coach is demanding greater effort.
Under the National Housing Accord, the pro-rata new housing completions target for the first 15 months was 300,000. Despite some improvement, the first 15 months saw only 218,974 new dwelling completed across Australia.
