Urban Taskforce Australia CEO, Tom Forrest, said that the current housing crisis means that the State Government needs to step in and take a tough line with laggard councils.
ABS housing approvals data released today show that councils in the north and east of Sydney are persisting in their efforts to hold housing supply back.
Whereas councils like Canada Bay and Burwood are embracing growth and accepting much needed housing supply, NIMBY councils like Willoughby Woollahra, North Sydney, and Strathfield have to deal with a major cultural obstacle at both the staffing and the councillor level.
We need all shoulders to the wheel to drive housing supply. Having NIMBY Councils actively seek to frustrate this cannot be tolerated.
