The NSW Government’s new announcement that councils will have to plan and zone for 30 years of feasible housing is a great idea, says Acting Urban Taskforce Australia CEO, Paul Waterhouse.
Urban Taskforce Australia led the call for improvements to our planning system and the Minns Government has responded after years of going backwards.
More recently, we have highlighted the need for approvals that are feasible for the private sector – which delivers 95% of housing supply – to construct.
The Premier has not only recognised this but has taken action.
Councils are on notice.
This is also a message for DPHI. Stop pandering to Councils. Many of them are the problem – not least the City of Sydney!
