The NSW Government’s new announcement initiative that councils will have to plan and zone for 30 years of feasible housing is a great idea, says Acting Urban Taskforce Australia CEO, Paul Waterhouse.
Urban Taskforce Australia strongly supports the proposal to require councils to create a 30-year pipeline for feasible housing, coming out of the NSW Productivity and Equality Commission, much as we have the NSW Government’s previous low- and mid-rise (LMR) housing initiatives and rezoning proposals.
The policy will cut through many of the barriers faced by developers trying to increase housing supply, and will overcome the automatic stance of some councils to resist all new development.
The clear identification of areas where housing might go will help developers to plan new housing and authorities to identify and implement much needed infrastructure.
