A concept plan approval has been issued for Costco’s development at Auburn. The development was approved, in part, because the strip of roads was found to be an “emerging” centre for large retail formats. This was justified by reference to an unimplemented draft LEP dating back to the year 2000. The impact on nearby centres was also considered. More details are here.

Newcastle City Council is working on a City-wide Floodplain Risk Management Plan. We are advised that this plan will describe ways to manage and live with flash flooding, Hunter River flooding and sea level flooding including the consideration of long term sea level rise. A draft City-wide Floodplain Risk Management Plan should be completed early in 2011. Once the Plan has been adopted by Council, there may be some changes to development assessment for flood prone land. Further information can be obtained from here.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has extended the public exhibition period for their draft comprehensive local environmental plan and development control plan. They will now be exhibited until 7 May 2010. Further information can be obtained from here.
