Todays planning circular also warns that the Department is currently examining the thresholds for the joint regional planning panels.

Apparently, this involves consideration as whether these panels are dealing only with genuinely regionally significant development” and “further advice will be provided in course.  An increase in the current $10 million threshold for joint regional planning panels is under active consideration. That is, joint regional planning panles may be stripped of the power to deal with some projects, and that power may be return entirely to councils.

Unlike Part 3A this was not part of the Coalitions election platform. We do not support this move and will be communicating our view vigorously to the government.
