The winner of Urban Taskforce Australia’s Hospitality Development Award is Capella by Pontiac Land Group.
Chair of the DEA Judging Panel, Chris Johnson AM made the following comments about the project:
“This adaption of the old Education Department Building on Bridge Street Sydney has restructured the building into a 192 room hotel. The design by Make Architects has retained the sandstone character of the original building while incorporating modern hotel facilities. The central atrium brings light into the building and the various restaurants and hotel lounges have a quality feel about them. The jury supported the renewal of the building into a use that allowed significant public access.”
