Has Albanese given up on the housing crisis? | AFR 27.03.25

The Australian Financial Review today quoted Urban Taskforce CEO Tom Forrest, who described the Federal Government’s budget as “disappointing” in the context of housing.

While acknowledging the $54 million investment to support the regulation and uptake of prefabricated homes as “welcome,” Tom also called it “miserly” — reflecting the broader sentiment of the Urban Taskforce’s response to the Budget.

Direct investment in housing solutions is always appreciated, but the scale of the challenge demands far more. The commitments of the Budget, fall short of what’s needed to meaningfully address Australia’s housing crisis.
