The release of the master plan for Central Barangaroo with half of the site as public space and half as medium rise development has got the balance right says the Urban Taskforce.
“With Barangaroo South having very tall towers and the northern part of the site being the Headland Park it is appropriate that the 5.2 hectares between these two precincts takes on a different character.” says Urban Taskforce CEO Chris Johnson. “The mid rise character of Central Barangaroo set within a landscaped parkland gives the perfect balance to its neighbouring sites.”
“The large amount of waterfront parkland will be a great gain for Sydney siders particularly with the proposed urban theatre and the ‘Sydney Steps’. The continuation of the public foreshore walk will be a major feature for visitors and locals wanting to walk or cycle along the waterfront of Sydney Harbour.”
“It is pleasing to see that the Barangaroo Delivery Authority has used different architects and urban designers to those used on adjoining precincts which should lead to some diversity within this very large site.”
“With multiple cranes at Barangaroo and massive earth moving equipment constructing the Headland Park it is clear that the project is fast becoming a reality. As well as being of great financial benefit to the state and to the city Barangaroo contains significant public benefit and incorporates leading environmental standards.
