Strathfield TOP 10 SUBURBS FOR GROUP HOUSEHOLDS Group households The fifth and final urban segment are group households. Nearly one in ten apartments in Sydney (9%) are group households. One of the fastest growing urban segments, the number of group households has grown by 26% since 2011, second only to vertical families (34%). Group householders are most likely to be young Gen Ys aged between 23 and 37 (48%). They are highly educated with more than half holding a university qualification (56%). They are therefore the most educated apartment segment. Many group householders engage in work, with 44% employed full-time and a further 27% employed part-time or casually. Combined household income amongst this urban segment is most likely to be between $62,400 and $104,000 per annum (31%). When commuting the most popular mode of transport for this urban segment is public transport. Nearly three in five (58%) travel to work by train compared to two in five (40%) by car and 36% by bus. Public transport is very important to group households living in apartments with nearly three quarters (72%) using public transport at least few days a week. For these households, access to public transport is the number one most influential factor when choosing where to live (70%), followed by affordability (58%), and lifestyle (31%). For urban group households the top three benefits of living in an apartment are: low maintenance (45%), price (44%) and safety and security (41%). While the lower price of apartments is a draw-card for group households, 59% are motivated to rent/own their apartment because of lifestyle and location reasons, not just financial reasons. Group households are the segment to most truly live a walkable lifestyle. Three in ten (31%) do their shopping and other recreation in an area less than 500m from their apartment. Group householders believe that the greatest things about Sydney are the employment opportunities (33%), the weather (33%) and the lifestyle (30%). Group householders are highly engaged with current issues and more than three in four (77%) always/often read and engage with a range of current issues. When voting, group householders are most likely to vote Labor (ALP) (39%).
