Smothering heights heritage risk

A plan by heritage buffs to add even more smothering layers of bureaucracy to NSW’s labyrinthine planning system in the name of conservation has been slammed by industry groups who say it could threaten jobs.

The move from the NSW Heritage Council was outlined at its November meeting when it discussed the future of the MLC Building — a 1957 North Sydney office block that the Australian Institute of Architects wants preserved because of its mid-century design credentials.
