Retail, Commercial, Industrial, Mixed Use, Greenfield and Apartments All Winners in Urban Taskforce Awards

The 2019 Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Awards cover all categories including retail, commercial, mixed use, and apartments in a bumper year says the Urban Taskforce.

“The largest number of entries related to apartments in a bumper year for the completion of quality buildings.” says Urban Taskforce CEO Chris Johnson. “The Development of the Year for 2019 went to YORK&GEORGE a 32 storey urban apartment building in the Sydney CBD constructed over a 7 storey retail and commercial podium that included refurbished heritage buildings.”

Chair of the jury and Greater Sydney Commissioner for the Central District, Peter Poulet, said “This year’s awards were very difficult for the judges as there were so many quality buildings. The jury was mindful that the winners needed to demonstrate commercial success, as well as having design quality, but the winners seemed to excel in all criteria. The Jury was unanimous in selecting the elegant, mixed use development YORK&GEORGE as a worthy winner of the Development of the Year 2019.”

“The winner follows a trend in tall apartment buildings receiving the top award with the 2018 overall winner being Meriton’s Altitude apartment towers at Parramatta. The 2017 overall winner was Barangaroo South by Lendlease, which included apartments and commercial towers.”

“The Commercial Office City Development award went to 105 Philip Street, Parramatta by Dexus and Charter Hall, for a 6 star Green star building that was developed closely with the anchor tenant, Property NSW. The building has innovative atrium spaces that provide a vertical village workspace. This is an excellent example of how Parramatta is becoming a jobs centre as it takes on its Central City status.”

“The winner of the Greenfield Development award went to the 588 lot residential land subdivision at Caddens Hill by Legacy Property. The developer contributed community infrastructure including parks through a Voluntary Planning Agreement valued at $15 million.’

“The Retail Development award went to Stockland’s Green Hills shopping centre at Maitland. The centre has a 5 star Green Star rating and the jury said the building looks stunning. Local users have called the project ‘A shoppers dream’. “

The jury for the 2019 Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Awards was Peter Poulet, Central City District Commissioner, GSC; Carolyn Cummins, Commercial Property Editor, Sydney Morning Herald; Jennifer Cooper, Principal, Urbis; John Ferrarin, Director FCS and David Tanevski, Managing Director, KWC Partners.
