Libs to expand lobbying register

24 August 2010

The Leader of the Opposition, Barry O’Farrell, has announced plans for a “stronger lobbyists register”.

“Unlike Labor, the NSW Liberals and Nationals’ lobbyists register will cover all those seeking to influence government decisions, including former Ministers, MPs, unions and industry groups,” Mr O’Farrell said.

“We welcome the ICAC inquiry into lobbyists and will consider its recommendations carefully and modify our policy if necessary.

“The State Labor Government only announced its inadequate lobbyist register in response to the NSW Liberals and Nationals’ plan.”

The ICAC recently completed its public hearings into lobbying in NSW.

In additional to our original submission, we have since lodged two supplementary submissions to the ICAC’s inquiry – on the 23 August 2010 and on the 10 August 2010.
