FISH MARKET GO-AHEAD SIGNALS PYRMONT IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS

The NSW Government go-ahead for the new fish markets is a good signal that the government supports development in Pyrmont says the Urban Taskforce.

“It is a positive signal from the NSW government that the new fish markets is going ahead.” Says Urban Taskforce CEO Chris Johnson. “This will open up the old market site for redevelopment with apartment towers and mixed uses. This development will add to the renewal of the Pyrmont peninsula which must include the Star’s Ritz Carlton hotel project.”

“With further development on the Harbourside site and on the existing Powerhouse Museum site, after its relocation to Parramatta, Pyrmont can go through a generational renewal as a bustling mixed use urban precinct to match the Sydney CBD.”

“The relocated Fish Markets is a $750 million investment package of the site, which will include public promenades, a ferry wharf and new public space.”

“The Pyrmont Fish Market is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Sydney and attracts thousands of visitors and millions of dollars in sales. The redevelopment of this key site and renewal of the markets will maximise its valuable waterfront location and ensure that visitors to Sydney have the best experience possible when coming to see this iconic attraction. Pyrmont can evolve into a bustling, high-rise, lively mixed use precinct.”

“It will help the revival of Pyrmont if a metro rail station is strategically located at the peninsular to support residents, workers and tourists.”
