The Property Person of the Year is an annual award presented to a property sector leader in NSW. The 2006 Property Person of the Year award was presented by the NSW Premier , the Hon Morris Iemma MP to Mr Bill Moss AM, Group Head of Banking and Property at Macquarie Bank at a charity fundraising dinner in aid of the Warrah Society.
The 2006 Property Person of the Year award dinner and presentation attracted 500 property industry representatives and raised more than $250,000 for the Warrah Society.

Mr Bill Moss AM
Group Head and Chief Executive Officer of the Banking and Property Group, Macquarie Bank.

Under his leadership since 1984, the Banking and Property Group at Macquarie Bank has grown from a one-person division to an international organisation today with more than 1,400 people. The Group works together with its associates and partners to provide a comprehensive range of specialised banking, mortgage and margin lending, property and financial related services worldwide.

It has offices in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Italy, Luxembourg and the United States.

With more than 30 years’ experience in the banking and finance industry, Bill Moss is a leading figure in the Australian financial community. He is a director of more than 40 Macquarie companies and has oversight of Macquarie’s property funds management businesses, which manage globally more than $23 billion of property, related assets and a listed market capitalisation of more than $13 billion. These listed property businesses would rank – as a single entity – as the 17th largest listed company on the Australian Stock Exchange. In all Macquarie, under Mr Moss’ direction manages more than 800 commercial, industrial and retail properties.

Mr Moss has lead the development of the residential mortgage finance industry in Australia as the major funding partner of Aussie Home Loans and has actively encouraged the development and expansion of the residential mortgage broking industry. This development has undoubtedly lowered bank mortgage margins and improved home affordability for Australians. Macquarie is now taking this expertise to the United States and more recently to Europe. Over this time, Macquarie has provided the finance for more than 191,000 mortgages and currently manages in excess of $17.6 billion worth of residential mortgages around the world.
In margin lending, Macquarie under Mr Moss has led the development of protected lending in the area of margin loans for share market investment. Macquarie Margin Lending now manages a core margin lending book of more than $3 billion.

Mr Moss also set up Medallist Developments – a joint venture with Greg Norman’s private company, Great White Shark Enterprises. Medallist is a developer of residential lifestyle communities where the primary focus is on developing “golf course communities” with additional amenities and services for residents and guests. About 15,000 residential lots and 15 golf courses are currently under development. These projects are located throughout Australia, the United States and Mexico.

In addition to the Medallist projects, Macquarie Property has participated in the development of more than 18,000 residential dwellings and has been major contributor to the growth and development of quality housing estates.

In addition, Mr Moss is well known for his support for a number of charities. He is a patron of the National Aboriginal Sports Corporation of Australia and is a major supporter of the promotion of indigenous art and artists. He has also adopted and is encouraging a remote Aboriginal community at Titjikala, which is located about 120 kilometres south of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.
